I hope my DH never sees this thread and tries to keep up with the number of chickens I have in Harleys.

He has a 2005 HD Peace Officer Special Edition Fatboy.

Biggest mishap between chickens and the harley (so far). We had just moved my first flock to the coop after they had lived on the screened porch for the first five months of their lives. I was outside trying to convince the chickens to go to the coop while DH washed the vehicles one evening. I'm chasing and chasing. My darling rooster Thor, a 5 mo. old cockerel at the time, got confused and decided to roost on the handlebars of the harley. Thank goodness I saw him first and grabbed him before my DH could. He was so mad at that rooster!

I don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but here in NH, all Harleys (almost without exception) are fitted with loud pipes before they even leave the dealership. They aren't legal here but the law isn't enforced in most communities. Needless to say, there is a good part of the population that don't like Harleys. Most of the riders like to just cruise along but then there are a few who enjoy lighting 'em off down the side streets at 2-3am. And you'll see some blowing past cars on a double yellow line that are already going 10 mph over the speed limit (making one heck of racket while they're at it). Those are the guys that give the rest of the riders a bad reputation. No, I don't own a Harley. I have nothing against them but I tend not to trust riding any vehicle that doesn't stand up by itself. Maybe a trike would be more my speed?

Ohh wow great responses. Yeah some people do put loud pipes on thier bikes. Some because it makes them feel like a rebel and some because they think loud pipes saves lives. Me......I am on the fence but my husband and I are 45/61. So we enjoy normal pipes..... I learn to ride in 2004. Though a country girl I had never even been on a 4 wheeler or dirt bike. So when I bought my first bike it was a Honda 750 American classic Edition (ACE) Big bike for a 5ft 3 chic. So my husband lowered it for me. I like that fact it a heavier on the bottom than by the tanks and bars. Which made it so I could lift it from the kick stand (LOL) But my husband had to drive it home from the dealership.

Two months later and the military safety course under my belt, I sold it and got a Harley. Mostly because it look larger than my DH Harley 1200 Sportster and I felt bad for him

I'd be inclined to go along with the loud pipes saves lives (although there is no evidence to support that theory) but NH is the only state that doesn't have some type of a helmet law. None of the Harley riders wear them. One rider got killed recently during a charity ride and I'm certain she wasn't wearing a helmet. Normally, there would have been a crusade about the dangers of not wearing a helmet but not a single word about it. I guess I'm going off topic now but I was curious about the loud pipes in other states. I'm planning a move, possibly out of state, and the one thing I know for certain is that I won't live on a known biker route.

My husband and I took our RV and Harley to NH several years ago. One of the best trips ever. The White Mountains are absolutely beautiful to ride... We rode to the top of Mt Washington. That was wild. It was like 68 with gentle breeze at the bottom and by the time we got to the top the winds were 50 miles and hour and it was 38 degrees. Half way up we had to pull over and put on our leathers!!! Here is a pic of DH at the summit...
