Where do you live? How cold does it get? I would consider 3 walls and leave one side open, just hardware cloth. More ventilation the better.

I am in upstate SC so our summers are very humid and hot, and our winters vary from mild to this past winter where we had a month of single digit mornings!

Our carport is no where near that nice lol it's homemade and we keep lawn equipment under it right now. Lol

So yup ventilation, good airflow all around is key for you. Might be worth considering just a 3 sided shelter in there for sure.

I didn't mention in my original post that I plain to let them out as much as possible. Coyotes, Hawks, Cats, and Snakes love my area so leaving them out all day and rooster at night is hard unless I will be them! I'm a pretty good shot so I feel safer with them out when I am watching.

Y'all please ignore all the "junk" our property is a work in progress!! Here are a couple pics of what we are working with. The portion to the left of the "shed/carport" is what we will be using. The sliding glass door box will be moved...don't ask cause I have no clue it was here when we bought this property ...and the coop will go there between the trees.

My coop is an old lean to shed off the side of my barn, just takes imagination! You can make that super nice.
