Too much veggies and fruits?

Thank you. Now I get it. Would be once a week ok to give them fruits and veggies then? As I said I am such a newbie and want them to be as happy as they can be. But of course, I don't want to harm them.
I give mine scraps on a regular basis. It just doesn't amount to much of their diet. I also feed their egg shells back to them. They think that's pretty cool too. Right now they aren't getting any treats. We're in a cold snap, and the forecast is now saying we will be below 0 for daytime highs for over a week. I only want them eating their normal feed so they have enough good energy to stay warm. As I type this at 7:43 PM its -23f. They can't afford to eat what amounts to junk food.

I'm sorry. Not trying to be a pest. I bought a bag of so-called " crumble" feed. My chicks were born ( 3 of them) late Oct. '20 and 1 of them Sept. '20. Can I give them this feed? I saw some video on line when I was doing some research about fermenting for chicken that feeding this to chicken also. Or is this crumble feed only for baby chicks?

Mine are getting the crumbles now because it's the only 20% protein feed I can find. You're fine with that, and then give free choice oyster shells when they start laying.

If the "crumble" food is chick starter, then it is safe for chickens of all ages.

A chicken of any age can be healthy with just chick starter and water, unless the chicken is a hen laying eggs. Then she also needs extra calcium (usually a separate dish of oyster shell, so she can eat whatever amount she needs.)

It's perfectly fine for them.
I feed all of my adult birds a crumble type feed.

Actually va crumble or pellet feed is much better than a whole grain type feed.

Differing from most opinions here, I think it is okay for you to feed them veggies and fruits every morning.

"Treats should take up no more than 10% of their diet." This is a good rule, but I don't consider veggies "treats". Especially greens. Scratch, extra wheat and corn, and bread from the kitchen are treats; but to me, greens and earthworms from the garden are not. I offer them those as free-choice.

I know there are strong opinions on this. Please everyone, be kind.
