Salpingitis is when a hen has formed solid egg masses in side the abdomen when eggs have been going in the wrong direction. She also could have cancer. Most times we do not know exactly what is wrong until a necropsy can be done after death. I usually open the abdomen of every hen I lose to try and see if there are any clues or cause of death. Your state vet usually can do a thorough necropsy if you keep the body cold, nit frozen.
