Only thing I would be afraid of with a 1/2 drill is breaking off a screw. 1/2 drills have alot of tourqe (sp) and can snap of the head really easy. I build almost everything I have with a cordless driver like this one http://www.harborfreight.com/1-4-quarter-inch-18-volt-cordless-impact-driver-67028.html mine is not a HF model but has lasted for over 4 yeasr of use. As for HF tools yes they are cheap but yes they do work. I have a few things that I use in my everyday business and they have lasted. Some of them make a funny noise and smell but they just will not die

The majority of my builds were done using a framing nailer (from HF) using glue tipped nails. The friction of the nail going into the wood activates the adhesive bonding the nail to the wood. I only use a drill driver for roofing, hardware (hinges, handles, etc) and it is an 18 volt Ryobi with a clutching keyless chuck. I also use finish and brad nailers where necessary.

The nail gun is just a faster method.

Not cheap, but I love love love my 12v Dewalt Impact Driver and Drill set (includes two batteries, charger, bag and flashlight for $199). Drill can also be a screw gun with multiple settings for speed, Impact driver is just variable speed using the trigger (a little loud too, so I use ear muffs for bigger projects), both drill and driver have LED lights for working in the dark places without needing an additional light (really nice to have).

People that need to do day long projects and major building would want the larger battery sizes for more power and charge time or a corded drill, but for me, these new technology 12v lithium ion batteries are awesome.

Best screws that I have ever used are SPAX screws with the square driver bit.
