I change water daily. We will be setting up a horizontal nipple water system in the near future, but for now, I have 3 1 gallon waters and a qt waterer for the littlest 3.Just the adults, the chicks will need to eat. All of them should have fresh clean water at all times.
I order it from either of these places:@dawg53 where are you finding valbazen? I can't find it anywhere now.
Dose for Safeguard (Fenbendazole) is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days.@dawg53 I ordered the valbazen. No idea when it will get here, but I have a chicken declining. I picked up some liquid safeguard. I am seeing a dosing of 0.23/lb. Is that accurate? That would be 1.25ml for a 5lb bird which seems like a lot when comparing to the goat chart of 0.6/25lbs.
I also used ivermectin pour on tonight for safe measure considering the declining bird has feathers missing around her vent (I don't see any lice or mites) and a case of bumble foot that I noticed 3 days ago.
Should I use the safeguard the same method as the valbazen (on empty crops)? Since none of the chicks are declining, I will wait on treating them until the valbazen comes.
Only symptoms are the lack of vent feathers, lethargy and bumble foot. I haven't gotten a picture of the foot yet (too busy treating to take pics but will try today). She molted in October and the vent feathers never came back.Dose for Safeguard (Fenbendazole) is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days.
A 5lb bird dose is 1.15ml.
Chickens are not goats, so you can't go by a goat dosing chart
Ivermectin may help with lice/mites. What dose did you give? 5%Pour On dose is 0.09ml per pound of weight applied to the base of the neck along the spine making contact with the skin. Repeat in 10 days.
Missing feathers around the vent...photos? This could be from number of things, from plucking/picking to possibly lice/mites.
What is the bird declining from? Reproductive disorder? Symptoms?
