Top Ten Hatching Misinformations

Here are two:

Cracked eggs won't hatch. As long as the membrane isn't broken, a cracked egg has a decent chance of hatching. Just seal the crack with wax and let the egg be. I repaired a crack on one of my chicken's eggs and the chick hatched out perfectly. It is easier for bacteria to get in with a cracked shell, but the egg is not immediately doomed.

Dirty eggs shouldn't be set and won't hatch: Very dirty eggs shouldn't be set, since you risk contamination of other eggs. But eggs with just a couple flecks of dirt or a small area covered in dirt have a pretty good chance of hatching. I've set slightly dirty eggs before, and have experienced just-as-successful hatches.
