Ok so wait a second. Ducks want babies in the winter not spring? What are the signs of a broody duck? I'm in Utah, USA.

They don't here; I never have ducks going into breeding season this time of year. I'm in VT. Maybe if I had a light in the coop so they were getting an artificially higher amount of light a day they would start laying now, but otherwise I've never had it happen. February is usually the earliest they ever start here. It's interesting that Calls further North would want to breed now.

A broody duck will sit on the nest all day and night, only getting up once or twice to eat, drink, poop and swim and then right back on the nest. They might puff up and threaten you if you approach the nest, and try to bite you if you reach towards them.

Broody Duck Hens will lay a Clutch of Eggs and then set..Eggs need to be in nest..Certain breeds brood as others just lay eggs and not known to brood ..They will stay on eggs more hours a day than off and will flatten out on the nest and hiss like a crocodile...

Broody duck = quacking broody chicken. Got it. 2 of the females successfully brooded ducklings I got as teenagers with them so I'm hoping they will do it again. Guess i might need to move my "proper duck coop" up on the priority list.

That's so strange! I wonder why they would want to do that this time of year? It's definitely not a good time for babies. And so odd being that you guys are all further North and the ones down here definitely aren't breeding now. But who knows with ducks.
