Ok so wait a second. Ducks want babies in the winter not spring? What are the signs of a broody duck? I'm in Utah, USA.
No....I have no light...My friends are all breeding too..They don't here; I never have ducks going into breeding season this time of year. I'm in VT. It's interesting that Calls further North would want to breed now since mine never do, and Ravyn is even further south than me and hers don't either. Maybe if I had a light in the coop so they were getting an artificially higher amount of light a day they would start laying now, but otherwise I've never had it happen. February is usually the earliest they ever start here.
A broody duck will sit on the nest all day and night, only getting up once or twice to eat, drink, poop and swim and then right back on the nest. They might puff up and threaten you if you approach the nest, and try to bite you if you reach towards them.

Last year they started at Christmas..Mine are done by The end of June...I'm excited..I will start incubating in two weeks...That's so strange! I wonder why they would want to do that this time of year? It's definitely not a good time for babies. And so odd being that you guys are all further North and the ones down here definitely aren't breeding now.
