I converted my old vinyl shed into a coop with branches and an old ladder for roosts, I made a coop out of a shipping box, I made another out of road signs that I got off craigslist. The construction ones that say, "road closed, detour, etc... I have a 4 x 4 x 8 shipping crate on my carport ready for another coop when I find a design I like, and I just got a Fisher Price playhouse on craigslist that had been converted, I cleaned it with my power washer and now I have to paint it and put in a roost. I love repurposing. Besides that, I'm poor, lol.

I've used old barnwood in my coop. For a sign. That's pretty much it! Or, maybe the twine I use from haybales to tie hanging feeders or doors. I recycle the eggshells!!

All my coops are repurposed. they were old kids playhouses. I got two that were going to the dump. The only real cost was my time, paint and some new hardware. I have another larger 6x8 shed that I got given that will become a new coop this summer.

Ooh can you post pix of the converted playhouses? I got one that I plan to upcycle when the weather warms up & want some ideas. Thanks!

I made a cheep chicken feeder that works great. Only cost me $1.00. I had coffee cans & banding & nut/bolts. So all I had to buy was a cake pan. I got the pan at the Dollar Tree for $1.00. If you have to buy the banding/brackets & nut & bolts it might cost you a few more dollars. But still a lot cheaper than the store bought feeders.

I have made two coops out of recycled materials that I either already had or got from craigslist or the restore. One is made entirely out of exterior doors. Which is nice because they are insulated & I can open doors on either side of the coop during the summer. Some of the doors have windows which let in the light. Even the steps is made out of skids. The other coop was made from recycled items found on craigslist. Even the fence & metal roofing are recycled items.

I am converting one too. I actually have the same one in this blog. I won't paint it as I don't see a reason, but this blog has a lot of good tips.
