Topic of the Week - What do you do with all those eggs?

I be eat most of them and thank my girls for their presents. If I have too many eggs, I give a dozen to my family. When my neighbour is chicken-sitting I ask her to take the eggs.

In winter I buy organic eggs in the shop or from a ‘neighbour’ who has many young chickens. I paid 50 ct for an egg last winter.

Sometimes I spring I buy 6-10 hatchery eggs for € 1 or € 1.50 bc I cant have a rooster.

I'm hoping to soon have more eggs than I can use and no neighbors to share with....my thought was to donate to this great soup kitchen I know of, but how do I know if they will be "permitted" to take these fresh eggs? How do I find out about the rules about such a thing? thanks!

Either go by and chat with people there or pick up the phone and call. If they have a website see if you can leave a message.

As we all know eggs are a welcome benefit of keeping chickens, but sometimes, especially after chicken math hits and the flock grew, some of us may have the wonderful dilemma of having a few too many eggs! I'm curious to hear what you all do with your chickens' eggs. Especially the extra ones.

Currently, I have 13 that are laying and 30 (don’t ask) that will start in the fall. Most of them to my 3 girls, and I sell some to my nail tech. Everything else is scrambled for the chickens to eat. Once the rest start laying? For that I need a plan; which I currently do NOT have. 😂

I barely use any, but have anywhere from 4-6 dozen weekly. I give them to our lovely neighbor, who gives them to his religious institute. I love knowing they are well used and appreciated! I'm too lazy to do the certs for the farmers market, honestly. This year i invested in mostly colored egg layers. The kids in the church are enchanted by the colored eggs! I picked up six brown LHs for quantity of large whites. Now the cartons go out labeled "kids" and "adults" hahaha!
