'Bird 'n the Fluffy Butts coop in Ohio
I tore well 'shredded' my ACL inmy left leg last week. (fell off a hunting stand ladder) I see a surgeon this Wednesday, and know the inevitable..... surgery.

HOW am I going to take care of my girls and 'Bird while I am down? I have been hobbling down to my coop on crutches now daily, but what am I gonna do with no 'chicken luv' every morning?

No going into work with 'chicken tracks' across my back.....???
No egg song to me for awhile?

WHO is going to make sure the heat light is on and the automatic door is shut?
WHO is going to scoop their poop on a daily basis?
WHO is going to hold my MayMay???????

wonder is DH would let me move into the coop for a month?
Maybe let THEM move in with me for a month??????

WHO is going to help them open their Christmas presents?????

Love the picture! this is the second dressed up chicken I've seen and I can't help but smile! The angel wings are an awesome touch!

I understand your worries. Several years ago I injured my knee and couldn't walk for three days. Although I had no chickens at that time, I did have a building full of other avian types who were used to on time service every day. My husband was not thrilled and I had no friends who would fill in. The hubby fed and watered my critters but the bird building was a mess. He didn't sweep and mop or clean the cages and by three days the place was a mess. On the other hand, knowing my critters needed me encouraged me to keep moving and I recovered quickly.

I'll be thinking of you!

Ouch!

I had surgery for carpal tunnel on my right hand (I am right handed of course...) about a week and a half ago. Not as bad as needing surgery on a leg, but still a pain to get chicken chores done for sure. I hope you are able to get good help with the chickens and you heal up quickly!!

I hope you heal fast! My hubby tore his, and broke his kneecap, and something else, from a dirtbike accident. The next day after his surgery he had to take me to the ER, my gallbladder was diseased, I spent a week in the hospital (real bad infection from the disease) but my hubby was able to do all the chores and take care of our 3 kids. He did use his brace, ice brace, and crutches, but it should be able to be done. Just have a chair placed in the coop/run? My hubby also bypassed physical therapy (he said it was boring) and instead joined 2 bowling leagues. He did great, and has no lasting problems except for the occasional pain in severe cold.

Good luck!

i have heard horror stories about ACL tears and surgeries. I talked to the surgeon and asked him if i can sit on a chair in my coop with my girls for hours on end and do therapy in there with them.

He told me as long as it is clean, warm, the girls are clean I can do that.

I have DH setting me up today. OMG.. he just shook his head and walked away looking at me like I am a freak. It was funny.

I had both knees scoped earlier in the year and that was easy. Had a chair in the pen with them. ah... the joys of chicken TV. Kep me busy for days!!!!!!

i hope the weather stays nice for you, wish i was closer to help! I've had both hips done and that was before chickens, i often wonder how hubby would deal with all my chickens if i had to do it again! Tell your hubby he better take good care of you or Bird will come after him...
