We just had a mink attack our coop tonight. Thankfully my husband caught it before it got too bad, but we might end up loosing one, unless there are any suggestions. The mink bit into her one foot pretty badly, specifically the middle toe. It caught her right eye/side of head, and her left beak area it toren. We did spray the foot with BluCot and wrapped it with gauze. The rest I'm not sure how to mend. Help?

Pictures would help. Is vet an option?
Sorry, but she whet home with my mom in a dog crate for closer care, so I can't take any pictures. Also, I don't want to traumatize her anymore. I can try to take pictures tomorrow, if she makes it through the night. I did call a vet, and the nurse said there is not much they can do with a torn beak because there is nothing to glue or stitch it to. He said the best we can do is try to give her fluids and see if she eats. :(. It would also cost $170, which we don't have.

The first step would be to stop the bleeding. Clean the area and then then apply a general purpose antibitoc cream such as neosporin or betadine. Keep clean and wrap the areas where possible. Hopefully others will be able to help you out more. Best of luck with your bird.

Thank you Interesting Chickens. We tried what we could for tonight. The beak stopped bleeding, but right before she left she caught her beak with her foot and it bled some more. I pray my mom can get it to stop again.

So I think our girl is going to be blind on the right side and has the torn beak. Her foot is a little blue from the BluKote. How do I tell if she is eating or drinking? It is not looking noticeable to us, but she does go to both bowls. She also laid a small egg today.

Provide some oyster shell or a similar bird safe shell product if she is still laying. A good indicator of how much she is eating or drinking is the quality of her droppings and the regularity of them each day.
