torn comb/black spots

Hello, just a few questions. I got a buff orpington rooster who had a comb injury, it looks like something got a hold of him. he isnt bleeding anymore. the thing that gets me is his comb is slowly turning black and hard. I forgot to take pics when I was over at my grandparents. he was the alpha and I have one other rooster with 7 hens. he moves around the field and all, but most of the time he just lays around, is he just recovering or might there be a infection, this happened monday. I will take a pic next time I go over there to collect eggs. Thank you for your time

It sounds like there may be an infection going on, since he is just laying around. Maybe try a round of Penicillin and see if he improves.
