Total Failure

Chicks who's box is squashed flat cause someone on the loading dock set a heavier box or two on top.

Chicks who freeze solid waiting for a plane.

Chicks who have been "misplaced" and are delivered weeks later - no extra charge for the odor.

OK, well I hadn't seen complaints like that but I am fairley new here. Going by my own experiences which is one order of chicks and one order of eggs. The chicks all arrived fine and are fat and healthy to this day. The eggs arrived un-broken but none hatched or even started to develope. Well, it was just a thought, I will keep thinking on the subject. :)

Well, I'm not having much luck yet. I ordered a bunch of fizzle eggs. They were to hatch yesterday and today. I had one hatch early yesterday. He/she is doing well so far. But I havent even had any more pips. We'll see! I know they were fertile. I guess there is about 12 in bator I think. The styrofoam bator. I bought a new bator but it didn't arrive in time for these eggs. I have BO in that bator. That bator is so cool. It is just so darn easy to turn the eggs. The temp stays steady. Even opening the bator to turn the eggs, it will heat right back up to the proper temperature. AND the bator will not go over 102 degrees. I realized how simple and easy this bator was when I put it next to the styrofoam Hova-bator.

I think that is my problem with the styrofoam. Also, this morning I noticed that the two windows in the styrofoam were inched up a little. So it probably wasn't holding the humidity right. Well cross your fingers and toes for me. Hopefully I'll get some more.

Drove 4 hours round trip but we have 7 baby chicks. The things we do for chickens.

One of the BYCers I ordered from offered to send another batch and I only have to pay shipping. But I am going to wait and hatch out some of my own birds to see if its my bator.

Thanks a million for all the help.

Happy Holidays.

Well I still have hope, but today is the end of day 21 and my 2 eggs (out of the 62 I set) are quiet.

I don't understand, my lockdown has been good, temps have stayed between 99 and 100 and my humidity has been 60-65% and stable. When I candled right before lockdown, the eggs were almost full and I could see movement.

I hope to wake up tomorrow to pips, today I raced to the incubator at 5:30 am, but nothing.

Looks like I am in good company (unfortunately)

Right now I have 3 Serama eggs in the hatcher - Day 22 - and nothing. Looks like I might have had a pip but all is quiet - no rocking, no chirping, nothing. These are 3 from over 60 eggs that I have ordered from 4 different people over the last few weeks. In my other incubator - set to go into lock down next week, I only have 10 left and out of those I think only 5 are still living. I've hatched Seramas before after winter shipping so I know how testy they can be to hatch but this is ridiculous. From one seller I had only 1 viable egg out of 24. None of them even started so I can't call them quitters, just duds. I think I am done with shipped eggs for awhile. The upside is I have 6 eggs from my own girls in the incubator and they are all viable and doing well so far. They will be mutts (Jap/OEGB mix and Silkie/Sizzle/Frizzle NN) but I love my mutts. Keeping my fingers crossed and trying not to be too discouraged with this whole hatching experience

Yeah, I havn't had the heart to throw my Christmas eggs out yet...I do not want to open them and see dead chickies either. Maybe I will put em in a bag and toss them.

Down to 18 of my Jan 5th hatch. I have an autoturner, so the ONLY time I open it is to add water, and I just added aquarium tubing this morning so I can add water without opening! I will take the turner out on Sunday, January 2nd when I go into lockdown, then I can use the turner on my next batch. I don't know why I keep trying, but really want to hatch some!

My next setting of eggs is silkie/ lavender ameraucana mixes, BBR Phoenix, silver phoenix, silkie/ serama mixes and some mystery eggs!

This is one of those days where I feel like this threads title... Mom and Dad aren't doing as good, and there is nothing I can do about it and I want to leave and go back to having my own life and I feel so guilty for that! Oh, well, one day at a time...

Keep your chin up
