Total Newbie

Ah, thanks guys.
Annemade, any thoughts about Easter Eggers? Are you happy with your hens?
I love my eggers. They each have a different personality. Eleanor and Jackie will sit in my lap for treats, sometimes Jackie flies up on my shoulder. Martha often sounds prehistoric. She and Mary are in the middle of the pack and will eat out of my hand. Dollies and Hillary are at the bottom of the pecking order. Even my 5 year old granddaughter can pick them up with ease. They get along very well. I also get lots of lovely eggs. Wouldn't trade them for the world!

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Hello and welcome to BYC!! It’s so nice to have you join us. welcome.gif
I have a fair number of EEs as well. They tolerate our temperature extremes well; both hot and cold. They also have a nice temperament. :love

Thanks a lot, you guys! I've started interviewing some of my friends who have chickens.
I was a bit shocked when I learned that one of them feeds only chickenfeed, and the other feeds only table scraps. I was confused about this– I'd assume that a nice mix of both would be the best for chickens (well, for any animal, really)? I mean, my parrot gets pellets, supplemented with fruits and veggies, and my cat gets kibbles, supplemented with meat and fish. So, I'd think that chickens would get chickenfeed, supplemented with "table scraps," then (among other things)? I think they could eat most of the things my parrot can... but probably more veggies than fruit. What do you think?
