Totally frustrated.....These can't be Welsummer eggs!!!!

Just got my first order of hatching eggs, a week early!!! I ordered for shipment next Monday and was very surprised when the post office calls and says my eggs are here. HUH!!!! They are my welsummer eggs from Strombergs and am I overreacting saying these are the worst quality I could imagine??? What should I do??? They are small and light. These pics are actually darker than what they are in reality. Help!!

The lone egg in the top of the carton is Butterscotch's for comparison. She is my red sex link. And the egg on the right in Jessica's palm is Butterscotch's too.

This first pic is probably the most representative of the actual color.

I am so dissapointed!! These were NOT cheap either. Do I call them???

I hate make a judgement from a picture, but those look like very light eggs for a Welsummer. Have you tried comparing them to the Marans scale? I wonder if they don't breed for egg color???

I'd call and complain. Who knows - you may have gotten someone else's shipment since it arrived early..??...??

Those definately are not dark brown eggs!

I would call them. I don't know if there were any guaratees but you can at least voice your displeasure.
I have Welsummers and sometimes I get eggs that aren't as dark as others but for you to get the eggs you got and after paying a high price I would be upset as well.

I agree they aren't as dark as they should be. Mine lay darker most of the time...but not as dark as my marans. I suppose hatchery eggs are like hatchery chickens. Nothing wrong with them, but probably not as good as you would like. Is that how they had them packed...in pine shavings?

I agree, they are light for "dark eggs" but as you said, they were from a hatchery. Hatcheries are notorious for not having the best stock and like EE's, to get those dark chocolate eggs you want, you'll probably have to go direct to a breeder.

There were pine shavings in the egg carton and the cartons were in a big box with packing peanuts. All the eggs were not broken and no cracks that I can see, but geesh, they are so small and light it makes me sick!!

When I placed my order, the woman told me that they get their eggs direct from a breeder?? Don't know if that makes any difference, but I honestly think these are even lower quality than I would expect from a hatchery.

Yeah, those don't look right, and I've only seen pictures

But I have red sexlinks laying that dark of an egg. I'd call them and find out what's up. It will totally screw up your incubation if you were planning on more eggs being sent and these are early.

How often do hatcheries rotate out their breeding stock? Is it like egg layer companies who kick them out at about two years old due to decrease in production?

I know my production leghorn lays HUGE eggs regularly but she is also way past the commercial disposal age. I wonder if their stock of marans is small in size or something too. I would sure hope for darker eggs than that!
