Totally frustrated.....These can't be Welsummer eggs!!!!

Well at 11 am we entered day 7 so we candled today. It was the first time ever doing this so I was very nervous. It looks like 13 of th 16 are developing. We were cruising along and wondering if we were doing it right and all of a sudden we got to a clear egg and it was so apparent that it was clear it was like, "Oh, so I guess the other ones ARE developing". They were dark on top with an obvious air cell on the bottom. I thought the air cell was supposed to be on top??? The first one was the only one we took the time to really stare at and we definitely saw the little black peep in there. And all the rest looked the same. So.... 13 good, 3 seemingly clear. We did set the clear back in and will candle again next week.

I think she flipped the egg over when she candled =]

The air cell should be on the big end of the egg, which should be in the up position while in the incubator.

Thats really good. Cant wait till I actually see pics of the little fuzzies.

Ok so we re-candled one of them once we knew what we were looking for, and the air-cell is indeed on the big end. So so far so good!!!

Yeah, the upper 2/3 of the egg is dark and you can see fine veining and most of the time a darker blob, which I gather is the chick. The bottom 1/3, or a little less, is much lighter in color. Is this the egg white? And at the very top you can see the lighter air cell, but is still not very well defined. Maybe if this still sounds wrong, we can take a pic and post it and let y'all be the judge.

Edited to say, we did put the big end up in the turner from the beginning.

I think you count your total chicks at end from how many you started with. So 13/16x100=your hatch rate if these 13 hatch.

At least that is what I do....
