So this little guy/gal is not almost 9 weeks old. I was told it was either Toulouse, African, or a mix. Any thoughts now that it has feathered out? It's bill is turning orange, but has a black bean at the tip. It was a little muddy from the rain we had yesterday so a little hard to tell the color of the feet and bill. I know some toulouse can have this and it is an old wives tail that that indicates female, but I'm not relying on that at all. I'm leaning towards Toulouse, but just wanted some opinions.

It is a cross, and looks like it may be female. Cute goose!
I'm honestly hoping for a female. I may try vent sexing this evening. I've seen plenty of people do it in person but have always been to scared to try. I think I'm finally comfortable giving it a shot. Does anyone have any tips/tricks for vent sexing?

Wear a long sleeve shirt you will see why when you do it.Another common mistake is people jump to the conclusion that its a female because they cant see the penis when they are just doing it wrong.I have never had good luck vent sexing geese. But give it at try.

I've successfully vent sexed one of our ducklings we hatched. But of course it's a lot easier handling a 2 day old duckling vs a 9 week old goose. I'll definitely be wearing long sleeves!!

Tufted gene is a strong gene giving 80% of the goslings hatch a tuft. When she's older you will know by her size.

If she ends up small she is a Roman tufted cross African but if she's going to be a big girl she will be a Toulouse cross African
