Toulouse Geese Thread

Thanks LivinginBrazil. My geese sure look much alike, so I am not certain which one it was. Only Gus is easy to identify. Besides being the largest, he also has what appears like dirty butt feathers. ;) Gus is kind of short tempered with me when I fill the food bowl. Has to be done quickly! I have not seen Gus bothering any other geese so far.
Outsider is keeping almost always a discreet distance now from the rest. That's how I can spot him. He is not in the least aggressive towards the other geese or me.
Two are a bit smaller and have very low voices. Could be females.
That leaves three more geese with hardly anything to identify them so far.

We'll be stretching a fence section again tomorrow, unless the weather fouls too bad. This will give us a chance to observe the critters up close for a longer time.
Good observation skills! The low voices will be females. I hope you don´t have more males than females, or poor outcast will be on his tod. You´d have to get a nice little goosey just for him then!

Or find a new home for Gus! Are they coming up for their first breeding year? You´ll soon find out who´s who then!

Yes, it'll be their first breeding season. Some trying to mount one another going on in the pool. With wetter weather here again, the natural pool will soon be full and the creek running again. I'll be taking the geese up there for their enjoyment. Something about the wet clay bank along the edge of the pond they really like to suck holes in. Really does not look like there is much usable grit in the clay.

Where the geese have been grazing on and off this season, the pasture is turning a nice lush dark green. Yeah, they are helping!

Interesting that we think there´s not much grit to be had....our dirt here is pretty well stoneless, but on the stream-bed there it is, grit, and the geese love to work away at the bank and get the grit they need there too. The stream is so much wider since we had the birds!

Your birds will love the creek..We went out today so I left the tinies in the pen with their mum, just in case of heavy down-pour, and when I got home late this afternoon, I let them out for a couple of hours before it got dark, and they headed straight for the stream...there were 7 tiny bedraggled goslings, they´d had a splash party to make up for being cooped up on a hot day!
