Toulouse Geese Thread

Pics
Mine stay awake most of the night on alert and sleep a lot during the day:

They look like fuzzy cobblestones

Geese left out 24/7 will be awake more over night as they have to worry about predators. Geese and ducks in general dont sleep all night like chickens do, so even those locked in a safe house over night will be awake some over night.

You've never had a problem with preds letting them stay out over night? mine would be gone in a night here with the preds we have. I'd love to see a pic of them up walking around.

I did loose a couple of geese in early 2011 when my dog was indoors to a coyote pack. I free range my chickens and lost a pullet last June (but the group of young Buckeyes were wandering in the forest off the property - far from the home & barns). I live in a National Forest and there are miles & miles of deep forest behind me (no civilization) so many predators. The key to keeping away predators is a good dog (she is backed up by a couple of hounds & a Mountain Feist):

I have learned to always leave outside at least one dog. The hounds will pursue and bark at wild animals; the Mt Feist will bark, but the dog above is the muscle of the bunch. She was a stray I obtained in 2010 & she is the soul of my little farm.

Beautiful geese, and they can rest assured all if well with that much protection around.

Still waiting for Missy's first egg, she is 8 months when do they begin to lay? I'm not being impatient, just wanting to make sure this is normal.
