He'd love it!

Has anyone noticed their goose eating dirt like it's going out of style? Plenty of food out there and I see Missy eating gobs of dirt. No grass yet but I have been supplementing with greens from the grocery store. I have only seen this one other time and it was one of my Muscovy ducks when she was broody, Missy isn't broody.

I don't know how much she is actually eating, but Gerdie is crazy over the dirt (that she can find) right now. She constantly has it on her face!

Miss Lydia mine have been eating dirt since I got them thy just love digging in it and get minerals from it! Even if you give them all kinds of suppliments they still eat dirt.... So dirt eating is just a part of geese. By the way my ganders eat dirt too!

Haha, you know what children look like when they´ve had a bar of chocolate? Well, my geese look like that sometimes after they´ve been rummaging around in the dirt..so sweet, they come up to me with their mucky little bills. looking for more goodies! They particularly like the bare dirt where we´ve had a fire, but any dirt will do. They´re slowly eating their pond bigger!!

Never thought of letting them dig their own pond

I have never seen Sam with anything other than his FF on his bill so much of it if it dried he wouldn't be able to get his mouth open. But this is the first time I have ever seen Missy eat dirt like she has been doing. Relieved to know it's normal. Now to get her to do it in the right place so they can have a dug pond.

Mine often look like they put on those mud beauty masks! Really wet, wet early spring so far. The water buckets have a good layer of muck at the bottom every day.
They also dig and pull up some type of root to eat. Could be clover roots, not sure.

I put an empty plastic coffee can out for them. Was a riot to watch, especially when the wind would move the can after they'd just about loose interest...
