Toulouse Geese Thread

Just got my first Toulouse last night, a breeding pair, George and Gracie. I am super happy. the previous owner also gave me two of Gracie's eggs along and we will put them in the incubator tonight.

Can someone help me out with the sex of my Toulouse baby? I've posted pictures before and gotten mixed responses. Some swear male and some swear female so I tried to get some helpful photos. Better angles maybe... This is 1) the day she hatched, 2) roughly one week and 3&4 are current

Makes me think female.

I was thinking that too for a long time, but I'm just not sure. I tried to do the sexing thing when she was a day old and nothing popped out, but I'm not sure I did it right and I didn't want to hurt her. I'm ordering two females on Thursday, so there shouldn't be any male/male problems either way

I think that's the best way to go then no matter what all will be happy. Are you getting Toulouse?

How old is she/he? no eggs yet? we may have to rethink gender lol

She will be a year in mid-May and no eggs yet. But some people have said big breeds like her can take until the second spring after hatching to lay eggs. I'm debating between Toulouse and Embden but not sure yet

There was a forum thread that I've read before about sexing adults. You take the goose onto your lap; right knee if you're right handed, left for the other. Tuck the head and neck under your arm and use your forearm to cover the wings. Now with that same arm, use your hand to palpitate around the vent while stretching the foot down nearest to your crotch. Yes, it does sound as awkward as it feels. Apparently the motion mimics a sort of mating behavior. If your goose is a dude, a spiral penis pops out. We tried this on our Africans and determined Ginny and Sweet Pea were males instead of females.

Now if anyone has the link to that thread, please share. It had drawings in it that were very helpful.
