Toulouse Geese Thread

My three, Sting, Pauline and Lydia, will not go out into their new free range area. The have access to two acres of grass, weeds, and all sorts of green stuff to eat...even grasshoppers if they are so inclined to eat them yet they stand there for two weeks now just pining away to get to their old range area they shared with the ducks and chickens. Yet, if the chickens and ducks come near their new run they charge the fence hissing and snapping at them so I don't dare let them back in that area.

Wouldn't it be interesting if you switched them around put ducks/chickens in the geese new area and gave geese back the old. Wonder if they'd want to be where the ducks/chickens are? lol

Of course as soon as I told on them they followed me right out to the field for a little snack

Left to right it is Pauline, Sting and Lydia. It was Lydia that had the courage to finally step through the gate into the field...not his hissieness Sting who is supposed to be protecting his girls.

Yes, that is me and my three. Typically they follow me around making chirpy little honks but they had resisted going into their new field. So, I just walked through their run, went into the field totally ignoring them, guess they thought I had something they needed because this time they followed me and my partner grabbed his camera and snapped the picture. You think this warms your heart, you should see me walking through the chicken and duck free range with 24 laying hens and 24 ducks (18 of which are only 4 weeks old) following me around like I am some sort of poultry shepherd. But, it makes me feel special with them. My birds are very much a part of my meditation through out the day. I often just go out and sit with them to discuss the problems of the day and the world. They always have just the right reply and all ends up right with the world.

awww, I find peace with my flock as well. I do feel like their shepherd since we have some resident hawks harassing the flock daily.
