Toulouse Geese Thread

I did go ahead and put them in the incubator. I candled them last night but didn't see any development. Thanks s much for the info. They must be hearty birds to have survived where they were. And yes, we have plenty of pasture where she can graze

@atmaclean How is your goose doing? how did the eggs do?

. I had some toulouse when I was 8 years old. I'm 30 now, so it's been quite a while. I've mostly raised ducks as pets since then. Although I did raise some African geese a few years ago. They were great pets for myself because they imprinted on me, but they were very aggressive towards my family, friends, visitors, or any other animal in the yard. I chose toulouse because I got the itch to raise some more geese, but I wanted to raise a more gentle and docile breed that my family and friends could also enjoy. It's a bit pricey for me to buy from a hatchery, but all the stores in the area only carry Chinese and African geese. So a hatchery it was. Anyway, thanks. There will be pics.
Looks like you have my other favorite breed too, Muscovy.

They really do I have a drake who thinks he is one of the dogs. lol
Haha. I had drake named Webster when I was in high school that was like a puppy. He followed me everywhere. I could sit down on the porch and he would jump up there sit up against me. My mom said he would sit at the driveway everyday and wait for me to get home from school. I don't know if he actually sat there all day, but he always came to greet me when I got off the bus in the afternoon. I've had a couple of dogs before, but Webster was the best pet I ever had.

Aww how sweet, I like that name too Webster. Mine is Opie my dh and I took him in right after hatch because his mama thought he was alien I guess she wanted to kill him. Chewed on his head some before we got him. He will be 5 yrs old June 2nd still thinks we're his mama and daddy, sometimes he thinks I am one of his girls i have to remind him I am not. Muscovy's are the only ducks I have ever had in my 12 yrs of having water fowl but 2 of My Muscovy females are sitting on some Runner duck eggs for me now due to hatch end of April. I hope they will fit in well with my Scovy's and geese and chickens.
How many Scovy's do you have? I have 7 counting my Drake I have lost 5 in the last few years to old age.

I have 5 females right now. I don't have names for them. I just call them the girls or the peeps. They're very friendly and great at taking care of mosquitos and small mice and snakes. They're great pets. Their favorite thing to do with me is dig for worms and grubs and snakes in the flower bed. They see me digging in the ground with my hands and they run over to join me. I don't do it as work all the time. Doing those kinds of activities with them keeps their bond with me strong. If you don't do those kinds of things and give them a lot of attention they can because less friendly and distance because most ducks don't have the natural friendliness a dog has. You have to really cultivate that friendship.

My girls love to dig in the dirt for yummys too worms are a fav. get out the shovel and I have to watch for webs. Opie stands around and watches. lol
Mine also like dried meal worms and lots of other greens that I buy for them from grocery store. Do yours like to catch in the air? Once in a while I will share a slice of w/w bread with mine and all my girls are great at catching, Opie lets it hit him in the head he won't even try, other drakes I've had were great at catching. They are so funny, It is an enjoyable day when we can sit out with them.

Mine are gluttons when it comes to mealworm treats. They will open and close their mouths and tug on my pants in demand of more. If I toss mealworms in the air they won't go after them until they hit the ground. The will jump off the ground to take them out of my hand though. I can't get them to eat bread. They won't eat any fruits or vegetables other than the cracked corn I raised them on and weeds. The only thing else they'll eat is meaty critters.

I was sitting outside eating some left over pork roast the other day and everyone of my scovy's and chickens had to have a taste they love meat. Mine love bread but it's only on occasion they get any. I don't eat it so I rarely buy it. Mine even love dog kibble and have to have some every morning. Opie will even eat canned dog food off a spoon.
Meal worms are def a very special treat.
