what happened to plain generic toys with nifty colors and designs patterns? now everything has someONE on it,,, my 3yr dd isn't old enough to watch hanna montana, dora is has been done to death, and high school musical for 5yrolds? what does a kindergardener know about high school? dd loves little einsteins but LE toys start at 29.99

Check out the company Melissa and Doug. They have nice toys that are wood.

Good luck. Each kid is getting one present and the rest is going towards Samaritians Purse where the kids are going to pick out something for a child in a 3rd world country.

i have a 3 year old girl too

you could always make her, or buy a simple rag doll and some old doll clothes, and a doll bed, or some wooden blocks..a finger paint set..or even take a card board box and make a playhouse for her

another thing i did was pick up old saucers and teacups with flowers and stuff on them from thrift stores, and put them with old pots and pans and gave them to her as a kitchen set

last christmas, birthday she got a huge kitchen, and every little people set made in the last 5yrs (ebay

) i found a plain baby doll , soft body no moving, talking, or peeing,

since i'm not crafty, i want to get her something innovative, she's getting a plasma car for her bday sat, it's amazing! me and dh played with it

. it simple and innovative, i wish there was more thing like it.

You know what I want, a generic RC car!!! No brand name labels or association with race car drivers. Just a generic toy RC car that you could get as a kid for 19.99 back in like 1995!

I understand your disgust. I don't have small kids but the commercialism is gagging. And I just found out that Rachel Ray makes dog food. What next? Chicken feed. Yummo!

Have you ever looked at Disocovery toys? One of a 3 year olds best toys could be a refridgerator box decorated to be a house. Or better yet, give it to her undercorated and a box of chunky color crayons. Spend the afternoon turning her box into a play house. You could even staple on curtains and make a little bed etc. On the inside walls you could draw a living room and kitchen.

Hanna, Dora and the rest can all go take a hike.

I hate the toys now. We had metal trucks and cars, action figures (My fave is the TMNT's), and matchbox. Why is everything made of plastic? When your brother or sister got you mad you beemed her/him with a matchbox car.

when my girls were that age, I bought a trunk, and then started buying a bunch of dress up items, hats, dresses, shoes, necklaces, glasses, scarves, etc. and filled it. My ace in the hole was after halloween clearance on costumes (i.e. disney princess costumes) and thrift stores for the 'real' items. That was a major Christmas gift, and the favorite!
She LOVED it. played with it for hours on end with her friends for a long, long time. And that is a cheap way to provide a great gift for a little girl. The trunk was a big cardboard trunk (also inexpensive).
