toys for chickens

One thing I did was to tie some 'pet bird' small toys onto the side of the
brooder ( it's cardboard, just poke two holes close together and slip
a leather thong through ). Don't use yarn, they can pick strands off it.
Anything small and sturdy of wood or plastic that might be colorful
will do. Always think safety with small chicks. They are curious little
peepers, they will enjoy something that catches their attention.

I tried little plastic cat toy balls today and my girls wouldn't come near them. I'll try again - I was thinking of stuffing some veggies in to entice them. So far live crickets and clumps of sod have been the best entertainment. I also have a stainless steel hanging skewer to put produce on that I haven't tried yet.
