Toys? (Pictures)

You know...it comes to reason that if all day they would be walking around with mom and playing, pecking, exploring.....that they would need things to do in here too..if they don't..they will just peck at each other...I recently bought a stack of these mini colanders at a garage sale for 25¢ each......and I had no idea why I needed them..but I KNEW I needed them..my gut is always right!

Ooooh, good idea. Why didn't I think of that? Maybe I can find a little buggy for them to play with. We have crickets and beetles running around out there. Do they need grit for that? They are on a crumble chick diet.

I felt the same way when my chicks first got home. I used a large plastic box for each brroder so they could see there reflections (and easy to clean). I used a small peace of chicken wire to keep them from flying out when there older, so that made it easy to hang a wooden rod from so they can roost. I used pine shavings for bedding and they really love to scratch around in that if they can find the grit and scratch that fell through the pine.
Just with those simple things they where very active or sleeping ha ha. But, nothing ever got in there way of eating and pooping ha ha.

So glad to see people that want to make the chicks feel good and happy even if we might someday eat them or use them. Good Luck.

So cute! My hubby thought I was nuts for wanting to give them toys too. LOL They love their little cat balls with the bells in the middle.

My babies really enjoyed an overturned milk crate with different sizes of tree limbs/sticks going through at different angles, large lava rocks that I put little seeds into the holes for them to dig out, grit in a cup, grass, worms, and other things and I like to mix things up, change the area around. They LOVE it when iclean out the brooder! they start peeping, chasing the broom and running around cause they know I add something new into the mix!!! Although it IS hard to clean when one chick jumps into the dust pan and 3 others attack the broom and follow its every move!!! LOL:weee

Awesome pictures! Ain't nothing wrong with keeping your chicks entertained. When approaching your husband about keeping your chicks happy avoid the word, 'toy'. Zoos call 'toys' environmental enrichment, and enriching our pets (or livestock) lives is a vital part of animal ownership. Just ask the owner of a Jack Russell terrier what kind of trouble a bored dog gets into.

Spoil your chicks while you can. They'll be ready to fly the coop (or brooder) in two the three weeks!
