I have a bunch of baby chicks that are almost a week old (got them in the mail on Monday) and was wondering if anybody gives their babies things to play with. I figured they may be bored sitting there in their little house with nothing to do. lol

I put a good sized....really flat on the bottom but has some height to it....rock in the brooder. And I put a 'log' leftover piece of fire wood that is not too thick but one that would not roll around in there. They are all over both things. And I have two containers of sand in there for grit and for dust baths.

So, yes, they like their little playground and make good use of it.

I have a rock, a mirror, a branch and some cat toys...the little balls with the bells in them.

You just wait! They will entertain themselves. Give them a sandbox and it will be a blast for them and you, too. Chicks like shiny things, so you could put something shiny in there as long as they can't peck pieces off of it.

My 9yro tied just a piece of yarn to the to of the brooder wire and it hangs down just above their heads, they like to go over and pull on it. We are going to add some other things as well, I like the CD idea might try that. See what kind of CHICKENS we have.

I have a mirror, some little perches I made from sticks I found in my yard, and this year I tried Baby Cakes for the first time. They LOVE the baby cake (big surprise- they love food

).

I don't have any toys yet, and I herd about perches. My chicks are only 6 days old today and I was wondering if I could put very small stick in there so they can practice perching.
