Tracks by coop

These are coon tracks.

It's a raccoon. Bobcats would show 4 round toes, and an opossum would show a thumb that sticks out to the side. You're seeing the front feet of a raccoon in sand. As a side note, these tracks look remarkably similar to what a porcupine track would look like, but you dont' have porcupines in East Texas. Their range stops just east of me (I'm in San Antonio).

Good luck!

Callemin, Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but when raccoons make prints in sand, they dont' appear elongated or skinny. You can tell, however that it's not a coyote/bobcat b/c there are connections between the top of the toe and the top of the pad. The only critters that have "long" toes like this in East Texas are opossums and raccoons.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I brushed off the area where the coop is, but I havne't seen anymore. My brother's friend came over tonight to set traps for coyotes and the bobcat. I know we have coons out there. They used to get in my dog food when I had a dog. May be time to set the coon traps out again.
