Would it be okay if I kept laying hens in a meatie style tractor during the summer... The Salatin kind of design. Sorry for my ignorance, I recently purchased one from Craigslist and was curious or are these kind of tractors not good for layers ?

Off the top of my head the big worry with tractors is with digging predators. You would always need to make sure you have a good "seal" to the ground when you move it to a new location. or you would need to put fencing on the underside of the tractor, which would make it that much harder to drag somewhere if you're moving it by hand.
