I was planning for my chick purchases next spring, and I was wondering where Tractor Supply gets their chicks. I want some Ameraucanas, and there seems to be a lot of difference between the different hatcheries for these chicks. Anybody know?

It depends where you live. In NJ they get them from Mt. Healthy in Ohio.

It depends on where you're located. TSC has regional contracts.

That said, you will not get Ameraucanas from any TSC, anywhere. Ever. They are available from breeders, not hatcheries. What you will get from TSC are Easter Eggers.

they would be Easter Eggers no feed store chicks will be true Americana's only true breeders have them you would get good production birds though.
now for you question they just get them from hatcheries MM, cackle & ideal are the most popular.

I don't know of any hatchery that has true Ameraucanas. They are all EE's. If you are not into showing, there is nothing wrong with EE's, but don't expect true Ameraucanas from a hatchery.

Where they get their chicks and which breeds or crosses they get is up to the local TSC manager. How many different orders they get in differs by manager too. My local TSC only has chicks for about a week and a half and has them in three tubs, bantams, reds, and mixed. The reds are not necessarily sex links and none are separated by sex. Each TSC is different. It just depends on the local manager.

I am in eastern NC, thought I had typed that, sorry.

I'm not looking to show, but I am looking for colorful eggs. I have read several places that Murray McMurray has birds that lay Army eggs (olive drab). Not really what I am looking for.

Anybody have a particular hatchery or breeder that can be counted on for colorful eggs?

First: some of my MM EE's laid blue eggs, some laid green some laid blue/green. It depended on the bird not the hatchery. As far as TSC is concerned, locally they gave you three choices--straight run white egger, straight run brown eggers and brown-egg pullets. I went for the brown egg pullets and got a mix of RIR, SS and white rocks. The people working at the store had no idea what they were selling.

will have some solid white chicks this Spring. They are the real deal and not EEs.

S and S Poultry, where are you located in Eastern NC? I would love to get a real Ameracauna.
