Tractor/trailer coop build

That is an excellent point @Molpet , and I’ve pondered it. Maybe move the ramp under the roost, like this?

Up hasn't been a problem. It's down that they need more room for. One would think they could hop down to a lower rung or the floor, but most of mine insist on using wings. 4ft up=4ft out for my meatiest.

Thanks again for your input, I will move it down to 3ish feet and drop a pic. Don’t need any birds flying into walls

Buying necessities, what am I missing? 8 pullits

Bedding pine chips and or horse bedding pellets

Feed. All flock pellets 18%

Sweet pdz

Waterer inside/ dishes outside

Feeder inside / dishes outside

A dispenser for grit unless you have at least some gravel in your soil.

Eventually, a dispenser for oyster shell or whatever calcium on the side you will have.

I needed nail clippers for mine as they spent so much time scratching through leaves and not enough scratching dirt. Cat guillotine style works well.

I like five-gallon buckets with gamma lids for storing feed.

Hello chicken people 👋

8 chickens
5 days in coop
Today first day in run

Does this look functional and safe for the birds?

12’ x 6’ space secure

Water and food dish

Gonna open the coop and let them do their thing,

Any word of advice for first day out please do not hesitate to comment

Thanks and have a great morning

72 sq ft isn’t much run room for 8 birds. The standard guidance is minimally 10 sq ft/bird, preferably closer to 15 sq ft.

If you can’t expand right away, you should try adding a bit of vertical space: tree branches several feet high, overturned buckets to hop on and off of, etc. You might also add some little hiding places where they can get away from one another on rough days. Think five kids packed in the back of a 1970’s station wagon with bad a/c, heading out on a loooong car trip.

How old are your chickens? Are they new to one another?
