Trade this for that. Is it worth it?

Since you did get some stuff off him before, I'd lean towards giving the guy a pair. I mean, will you miss two ducks? You got some stuff out of your dealings, why not give him something if it's not too costly for you. Sure he posted the stuff as free but it would be a nice gesture on your part to show your appreciation. Four is too much though, I would not do 4.

You don't owe him anything even if he has given you things in the past. Free is free, period. I would tell him that you were interested in the bench but not now since you didn't expect to have to give up anything to get something that was advertised as free. Then if you want to sell your ducks tell him what the price is.

This guy is an attorney? Well, he should know better than to ask for something in return for something advertised as free.
Although, maybe he did just remember you, wanted to do some trading and really doesn't know how it works.

If I were you, I would explain that since the bench was advertised for free, you would like it, but does he have something else he would like to trade for the ducks.

You might get lucky and get something else that you really want.
By the way, the table and benches look wonderful.

UPDATE:

First of all, thank you everyone for your honest opinions. I really needed to hear different opinions/suggestions etc.


After thinking about this situation more and more, I decided to email him back and tell him that I would not be able to trade my ducks for the wooden bench. I explained to him that ALL of my animals (including my ducks) are "FOR PROFIT" and I only sell them to pay my feed bill. I told him that I was sorry that I was not able to trade.

After sending the email, I knew that I probably wouldn't hear from him until today and that his response would be that he understood and that he was going to give the bench to someone else. Well to my surprise, he emailed me back in about 30 minutes and told me that he would still give me the bench. He also asked how much would I sell the ducks for. I was absolutely speechless. I just knew that the wooden bench was a goner and that he would pass on buying my ducks. I was totally wrong.

So, I emailed him back this morning and thanked him for choosing me to give the bench to and I gave him a price for the ducks. I told him that I would deliver the ducks to him and pick up the bench at the same time. So, now I'm waiting for him to email me back to see if he wants to buy the ducks and how many he wants to buy.

So, now it's a waiting game as far as if he will buy the ducks. Hopefully, I can pick up the bench today or sometimes this week.
