So I'm on day 3 of incubating a Trader Joe's fertile egg but I'm not sure if it really is fertile.

See photo below.

I'm wondering should I wait 2 more days or call it quits?

im not a professional :idunno but i would say wait a few days, if it takes them months to grow to adults it will take a little while to grow and hatch :jumpy

That doesn't look fertile to me, there should be veins visible when candled. I would give a different egg a try. Make sure to set them before you place them in the incubator.

I figured it wasn't doing anything. I checked out some day 3 photos and videos on YouTube, I believe by now I would've seen veins and a heart beating.

I can usually tell by day 2, by day three i am more positive. I wait til at least day five before i toss any, but im a seasoned hatcher and know what to look for. My vote is no, but ive seen people do this before with luck. Try setting multiple eggs, higher chance of one of them being fertile.

Thanks. I'll try again. But as for this one, I'll call it quits.

Just one thing. While I want to try again I'm thinking maybe I should wait, I'm going on a trip later this month and the estimated hatch date would coincide with the week I'll be out of town.

Depends on how long of a trip you are talking about. I had eggs set to hatch and had to leave for almost 2 days, however it coincided with the day before lockdown. I wasn't able to turn it for that whole day and put them into lockdown when I got back. 8 out of 9 have hatched and there is just one more which is pipped and peeping.

I'll be gone for 4-5 days. If that makes any difference.
