Trader Joes & Other Grocery Store Egg Hatching Club - Are you a Member

Has everyone thats hatching store eggs taken pictures of there egg cartons. I called a store in hoodriver called Rosauers and the young man helping me went over to the nuatural foods section to check for free range or fertel eggs and said that he found some called Rock Island eggs. Has anyone seen these , I will have to go out of town to get them as there half an hour away but we have a local bus that goes there and back I beleave. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that he actually ment he found fertel eggs and not just organic or free range. Im very excited though. I have been wanting to join for a long long time.

Those are what I just hatched!

Im confused by there sight though they say there brown eggs are RIR and there White eggs are legorn ? Ill hvae to go look again but you hatched brown eggs and those are yellow chicks????

Lol yeah. Ut ohs, sooooomeone isn't doing truthful advertising!

Yeah there site is down there other sight is locked and its really hard to find information on them , one place said they are in the middle of a lawsuite for false advertiseing but you know what I cant be picky where I live if I want to try store eggs. I will call more stores in hoodriver and see what they have but if this is it this is what I will be buying.

That's interesting that someone is suing them. Too bad, I hope they don't disappear (though it's super silly to lie about your breeds).

My best guess so far is that these may be White Rock mixes of some sort since they are feathering white primaries. Time will tell as they feather out more.

Yeah I know some people are writeing scathing reviews because there cage free are in buildings or something I didnt read it all but really when it comes to the way mass produced poultry and animals are taken care off unless you go for truely small scale its all pretty crappy you cant really point a finger at one over another unless you run into one thats truely more horrifying . I am trying to switch over to local farm fresh eggs and buying local hand made stuff becuase regardless of what you pay alot of the advertiseing is fluff pieaces and the reality tends to be alot less pretty regardless. I so wish I could just gobuy property and be a farm raise my own chickens and pigs and cows and have a huge garden and all that but not only is it financhlly impossible I am physically unable to do what it would take to run a farm physically.

Just in case their ID wasn't difficult enough, one of my babies decided to grow spots overnight. When I saw him today I was like "How did he get motoroil on him???"

Now I'm completely confused about these guys!

My 2 NYD chicks look exactly like this. The eggs were sold to me as eating eggs from a local farmer. One of them has white fluff with a couple small blue spots that appeared yesterday ( like yours) and the other is white with splotches of yellow ( like yours). They are also getting white primaries. I do wonder what they are, one came from a white egg and the other came from a brown egg.

There are only a few laying breeds that start out like this, so this kind of narrows things down for us! The hybrid called Tetra Tints and California Whites come to mind. California Whites lay white eggs, while Tetra Tints lay creamy brown eggs. Hrm.... man it's going to be facinating to watch them feather out!
