Trader Joes & Other Grocery Store Egg Hatching Club - Are you a Member

I bought some eggs from Trader Joes and set them last Tuesday. I put 7 in and tonight I candled to see 2 with veins (one I can see the eye spot) 3 with blood rings and 2 with nothing. Should I toss those that have nothing? Looks like I could see at least 2 go to hatch!

Just an update! The 2 I have left are wiggling and I can see veins and a dark spot. Hopefully they both make it so they have a buddy

Wow, who knew it worked.. Is it always White Leghorns? What about the Brown ones?

My grocery store brown eggs $2.48/doz (from Rock Island brand eggs) ended up hatching out chicks that looked like California Leghorns (white with occational black spots). I called the egg producer, petaluma farms, and apparently they use white leghorn roosters with their flocks of production reds. They do this so they can keep track of the hens and roos at a glance and I am almost positive they get the white leghorn roos free from their hatcheries. Since all of the chicks turned out white I am guessing that they are going to lay a light brown/creme egg and that their offspring will be both white and red. I gave away my last batch of store-hatched eggs to a fellow BYCer, but I recently hatched out 10 little fuzz butts a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I will keep some of these. Who knows! They sure do make great test eggs when hatching out marans. I can always candle the store-bought eggs to see if the air cell development is progressing as I like. I don't care what others think.... grocery store chickies are just as valuable and precious as any others.

Went to Trader Joes and picked up some eggs

This is a list of what I set in the Hova Bator (1602 w/ 1611 Auto-Turner) on 10/30/10:

12 Organic Free Range "Fertile" Brown Eggs

1 Random AAA Grade White Egg

2 Organic Free Range Brown Eggs

Hooray! This will be my first hatch wish me luck!

Went in today to the new Fresh Market here in town... no fertile eggs

I found and purchased fertile eggs at my local grocery store (Martins) put them in the incubator and nothing happened

But that doesnt mean I wont try again!!!

I just called a TJs nearest to where I live and they said "no, that would be wierd, like a baby chicken in an egg? no we don't sell fertile eggs."
