When you're desperate enough to incubate grocery store eggs, you are officially a hatchaholic, lol.
Actually, I remember the thread about Safeway, and have wanted to try it since. I like a challenge.

I got my eggs from our small town store, they were dark brownish with some spots

HEY Bel, I got one (looks to be hen) that is all yellow/white with a brown spot on her head, I was going to name her spot but named her Gretta instead. I have no clue where I got that name from, I just looked at her and called her Gretta.

What's everyone elses names you ask? (well maybe you didn't but I want to tell you

) Gretta (HEN, all white/yellow with brown spot on head), Rusty (Hen, rust colored), (Maggie (Hen, all white/yellow), and then theres George 1&2 (both roos, all white/yellow)

ETA- they are 3 weeks, and the roos already have bigger combs. (single comb, if anyone cares to know)

Two of my hens are broody. I don't have fertile egg so I've decided to buy a dozen eggs from a whole food store and gave them six each to sit on. We'll see what happens. These are brown eggs with some having speckles.

I found "free range" organic eggs at my little store -- asked about the producer. Lo & behold, lived 2 miles from the store!! hatched 4 of the 12 refrigerated 'store eggs' so went to breeder. Now hatch his eggs for him in 'barter' for all the eggs I NEED! 1 chick = 1 doz eggs! GLORIOUS!!! Talk about your enabler!!!

Push come to shove, tthey are "dual duty" breeds and I can have 'Meat' eggs. I grew up a farm girl I can handle that!

Update. I have abandoned this project. All of the eggs were clear except for one when I candled last night (day 6). The eggs I got are not that fresh. I'll probably try again if I find fresher eggs on the grocery shelves.

I set a dozen fertile eggs from Whole Foods. They were older, like 21/2 weeks in the fridge, none of them developed!! I was so bummed!
