My eggs just completed Day 20 and I peeked under Sparkle and found a pip! I got a quick pic of Egg 1 (see the pip on the top?!), but Egg 12 right next to it is pipping too . There is movement in Egg 8 (I think that's the one w/the monster air cell) but no internal pip and I didn't get to check anything else because I was interfering too much as it is. I'll check again tomorrow morning.

As I sat there staring at my broody staring back at me, I was a little envious of the incubator crowd because of their front-row seats to the hatching action.

Ok, the first egg has been eaten so I can't get Better pics so here's # 2, this way I can put them in the fridge for breakfast

I think most growers will label the eggs as fertile if they are. If you are buyingat a farmers market the seller should be able to tell you.

Saw a yellow chick dart out and then back under my broody this morning!! Way too fast for a pic! It was fully fluffed out and alert.

You'd never know it was there but I found an empty eggshell so I started nudging around. Today is Day 21.

Also a weird thing, the 2 halves when put together didn't yield the original egg, like the center was completely chipped away (and the number on the egg as well!)

Maybe from 2 different eggs?

There is one more egg left (day 22) and I don't hold out much hope, but the broody is still possessive of it so maybe it's still ok.

The five chicks are mostly light yellow with some faint black spots on a few and some faint shadowing around the eyes. It's so cool they have a real mom to keep warm under, especially considering these guys were destined for someone's omelette pan.

There is one more egg left (day 22) and I don't hold out much hope, but the broody is still possessive of it so maybe it's still ok.

I haven't not used this 'bator since I bought it this year LOL! I hatched 7 chicks from my two hens, then I tried ducks... two were clear after 7 days so I swapped those with chicken eggs, those two and only one duck hatched Then I ordered guinea eggs in the mail (couldn't find any keets so I decided to try hatching some) and 4 just hatched this past week, now the TJ chicks After them I'll do more of my own chicken eggs or try ducks again... I'm an addict! LOL

I just put 3, 4 week babies outside with secured heat lamp with a wire divider for viewing older chickens, 3 chicks still in house one week old and 3 eggs under hen with 1 week left.
