Really try anything that says "Free Range" or Pasture raised

We have one small store in town and they have nothing like that.  The nearest big store is an hour away and the nearest Trader Joe's is over an hour and a half away.     I am going to check them out after my current hatch is done.  Long drive but worth it if I find something.  I did just drive to Alabama after all for fertile eggs to put under my broody bantam.

You can always give them a call first to see if they carry the fertile eggs...

My boyfriend went and talked to staff and was told that they don't have roosters in egg factories so they can't be fertile. Lol Not one store had an employee that knew what he was talking about. Better to just go and look.

Yup, some employees can be frustrating. I called one trader Joe's and they quickly answered yes to carrying FERTILE eggs. When I drove the 15 miles they promptly showed me the pasteurized eggs! I was not amused!

For the record- I'm on day 6 where I set 7 "grocery store" eggs.... 6 were from Vital Farms and 1 was a "fertile egg" from the carton MARKED fertile. Guess which one is almost definitely a loser? Yep- the "Fertile" egg. My point is- the fun of trying to hatch these supermarket eggs is the "gamble"...at least for me. Many of the "new" smaller farm co op, free range, "organic" egg vendors/cartons are fertile. If they are pasture raised, or truly free range, I'd be almost certain there are roosters in there for flock protection. Where there are birds, there are bees...

 It sounds like you have a very good shot at getting chicks this time!

I'm not sure what has caused my hit or miss results but I'm wondering if it might be the airport X-Ray machine. These eggs did not go through the X-Ray machine so it will be interesting to see what kind of results I get. I didn't get them into the incubator until yesterday (January 22). I should update the results around February 12.

Hey guys! I set a dozen fertile eggs from the organic section of stop & shop 8 days ago. They were 11 days old when I bought them. At candling last night I saw 6 definite embryos, 5 maybes and just one clear. These guys amaze me. Can't wait to see what color these chicks turn out!

Get the word out! Post a picture of the egg carton. Find out where the egg farm is.

ooh, I looked there last night, in the regular egg section. Didn't find anything. I wonder if they had another fridge in the organic section
