We put our store eggs under our hen on Feb. 1 so we shall see what happens. :)

DH gave her 6 store eggs and 6 of our hens eggs.

I have 5 backyard girls--all 19 weeks old. I just realized that all but my Red Star tend to be broody breeds. So if one goes broody, how do I join the fun? My local store has fertile eggs so I start by buying the freshest ones possible. Then what? Just stick 'em under Miss Broody?
How long before they hatch? Can I put 12 under one hen? Do I warm the eggs up first? If they hatch will Mama keep them safe from the other hens?
If they hatch is any one interested in free TJ chickens? (I am very limited in terms of the number of chicks I can have in my area)

Yes!

It takes 21 days for eggs to hatch.

It should be no problem selling them but make sure they understand what straight run is. You will have boys hatch so you need to either sell them or have a plan for them.

If you are up to it, they are very tasty and surprisingly large for egg layer cockerels.

I just processed a 4 week old roo, surprisingly he had alot of meat. for a semi bantam. and they are tastier before their hormones set in.

let them rest one day before cooking or freezing.

so does anyone want MINE if i hatch some?? i don't have it in me yet but have progressed to someone else enjoying the meat...
on another note....i have in my incubator some eggs day 15...i have 2 set aside after candling (already disposed of several DEF not good) that are questionable .....the rest i felt sure were great...most are Marans so real dark shells...so....i have an OFF smell...prob those eggs? should i take the chance an dispose...i totally FEAR explosion....or let them ride....will go with consensus....first time newbie here with incubator...i usually hatch with broodies who just do an awesome job and they just know how to do it...NO work for me...

Get the stinky ones out!
Take any bad eggs out. You should be able to tell the bad one by the smell. It probably won't explode when you remove it but it wouldn't hurt to use gloves or a paper towel when you do. Certainly do not leave it in there.
Yes!

I put them into a ziplock sandwich bag and out to the trash.

ok the Maran one smelled pretty bad...so i put in plastic bag in trash..the silkie was mildly off...so that is prob bad too right? i left in so far...trash??? i SORT of want to open? but then i don't want to know...should i? the two i put under the hen are doing great! next hatch? safeway rock island eggs included! i think they are RIR...which i prefer over like white leghorns...only because i am more into the LOOKs than the production....i have RIR before and liked them quite well...
