Traditional Serama

I agree that traditional is the way to go, too many special birds get the boot because they don't meet someone else's standard. I don't agree with what is going on and I hope it gets fixed before too many people are turned away for good.
Here is a pic of my silkied cockerel from Laura's eggs. He is older now I have to take some new pics soon.
Ahhh little Thaddeus baby

Laura, birds are looking great.

I went to my first 4h meeting as the poultry leader yesterday. It was awesome. I took several birds, but of course the seramas were the big hit. they all loved how my 2 year old took her serama under arm all around the building and the hen didnt make a peap or even try to escape. I had several kids interested now. Can you say "Hook, line, and sinker!" I made the mistake of taking a frizzle and a silkie too and that what most of the girls are wanting now. I have 3 more meeting for different clubs in the county. It is a big county, but hopefully by February I should have an offical number of how many kids are in poultry club!!

Aloha Laura, We don't have a poultry 4h in Maui YET. Have found tons of kids interested but only 1 other adult. Minimum to start a 4h is four adults so you are very fortunate that one already exists.

Aloha! Yes, we are very fortunate in this area....lots and lots of 4H groups actually. I love 4H kids and could spend hours just talking to them. I give them huge discounts on eggs and birds. I would give them to them for free but I really feel they need to have some "ownership" in the animals so having to spend a little money gives them that. I love how they all keep in touch with me as the birds grow up. The first pair I sold to a 4Her last summer took 1st place in his county fair. He was very excited!!! So was I

Mauigirl,
Do you know how the Serama came to Hawaii? I was just wondering if they can be shipped into the islands or if shipped eggs make it over there and what regulations there might be?

Cathy

Thank you Cat! I wish I knew!!! Louis is one of the 3 roosters I bought from a breeder in Portland, OR. Their original stock came from Jerry and Bluegrass Seramas directly. I'm not really sure how far down the generation line from the original stock Louis is, but I do not think very far. I do know his babies are very hard to hatch - not many out there right now.
