Traditional Serama

He is beautiful!

I just bought some eggs from a (lady?) in Louisiana. Their breeders were so pretty in the way I like, I had to give it a try! Maybe I'll get lucky and some will hatch!. Nice huge chests, smooth red combs, ears and wadles, just pretty! Can't wait to see fuzzy butts, I sure hope I'm successful! Next time I'm going to want some frizzles, I just adore that on a Serama! :D

I have a few young, pet quality Serama's for sale, PM if interested for photo's and information. I'm posting them for sale on the for sale section too. I do ship and those sold soon enough will ship on Monday or Tuesday.

I wonder if it will be slightly melanized, based on the black skin at the wing tips, unless I am seeing it wrong and that is just the pin feathers. I have hatched hundreds of wheaten Ameraucana chicks and always checked those wing tip pin feathers right away to see if I got black or lavender. I don't recall the skin being melanized in most cases. That was just my observation and I have no idea if it has any correlation to adult plumage. I look forward to seeing how yours turns out.

Feel free to post lots of gratuitous chick pics! I have had my incubators turned off for months and am having cute chick withdrawal. It is so hard to resist turning them on, now that I am getting Serama eggs again. ;)

Definitely not white ;)
Here is the chick now, a full 24 hours old

I'll post updates when this little one is showing some feathers

I had 4 that hatched out like this this spring and two turned out a dark red/brown and the other two turned out a nice pumpkin color. But all 4 looked exactly alike when they hatched. Just goes to show ya, life is like a box of Seramas, you never know what your gonna get!

The genes I know of from this line are wheaten and pumpkin. Could be either, hoping for wheaten but pumpkin is still wheaten so it would still be useful in a wheaten project. I don't have anything with BBR, I know the color genes are related but never hatched that so far. I love the BBR hen color.

Here is the chick this morning, at 4 days old now, sure is a happy little baby, likes being held, thinking pullet by the personality but the babies can fool me sometimes. I've also had sweet cockerels.
