Don't let your guard down. I lost 2 birds to a coon, even though they've never been a problem for over 4 years. I was just a little too late getting them locked up in the coop one night. The coons used to clean up spilled chicken feed & now it's not enough.

I can't free range my birds anymore because of a neighborhood fox problem. We trap raccoons daily and shoot them on sight 
they went after my barn cat one day and almost killed her and racked up a $400 emergency vet bill. :/ I've done everything I know to reinforce my coop though so they don't get to my chooks. 
It sure doesn't help when people think it's cute to try and hand feed the coons off their back porch... That's when the big problems start.
