As I watched my best friend Fiona, fight, I saw...
...her master fall down. With a sword piercing his heart, she cried with many tears. I cried also, but I couldnt take my focus off the battle. I listened to my master, everything he told me to do I did. But as I saw we were the only ones left to battle, my heart sank, I was now truly afraid. I was afraid of my masters death, that we would no longer be together, that his wife would be a widow. I did my best to protect him, trying to stop any sword that might pierce him. Then, all of the sudden, a cold metal hit my side. An enemy stabbed me slightly, but it didnt hurt, so I kept fighting.
Every muscle in my body halted, as I watched the enemy run away. My back felt light, but that lightness brought sorrow to my heart. As I slowly turned, I saw him. I cried with every tear I could use. He was there, whispering to me, he said: Goodbye Emira, Ive fought many Battles with you. You were there through them all! Goodbye! My friend. At that he died, I was so heart broken. I cared about nothing else, but, his death.
But I thought that my master wouldnt want me to give up. Hed want me to save his family. Yet I knew it was too late to save his family, for the whole town was in flames, at least it wasnt Constantinople. There was no place for us to go. I looked around to see who had survived, it was several horses, I was glad to see that Fiona survived. Then I saw what I didnt want to see, two enemy horses, even though they did look sad by their masters side, I still saw evil in their eyes. But there was no other way, but to roam free with them, and whoever survived in my army.
Plans were forming in my head:
I must carry on what my master wants. I must stop them! I must change the ways of these two horses! I must protect Constantinople! I must destroy the Arab forces.
It did make me feel strange that I was trying to destroy the Arabs while Im an Arabian. But I want to do what my master died for! So I went over to Fiona and said:
Fiona, Im so sorry! Then we hugged and I continued:
Fiona, remember what our masters were fighting for, what they died for?
Yes.
I think that they would want us to carry that on as well as we can. We must fight the Arab forces!
I agree, but itll be hard to do that if those two enemy horses are following us everywhere. I heard them mentioning about you being a traitor.
Yeah
All the sudden I felt stinging in my side, I remembered about my wound. I looked at it and it was bleeding slightly. Immediately Fiona went and got some moss, she put it on as well as she could. It stung a little more, but I didnt show the pain because I didnt want Fiona to think I wasnt ready for the upcoming battles.
Once I remembered where we left off in our conversation, I continued:
Indeed, I suppose I am a traitor, but I dont really care about that. We should announce this to the others, but quietly because we dont want those two to know.
Ok, Ill pass it on to Domenica and Dixon, he should be second leader, since hes a stallion. And you pass it on to Agata, Caterina, Elma, Imelda, and Vanda.
First Ill go and ask those two Arabians what their names are.
Be careful!
I slowly walked over to them, for a moment I heard them speaking in a different language. Then they spoke to me in the common horse language. They were actually trying to be nice. The white filly said:
Hello, my name is Afra, and this is my brother, Thaqaf. Whats your name?
My name is Amira. We have to travel, and I know your going to follow, but please stay out of our private conversations and well stay out of yours.
Thaqaf had an awful expression on his face, then Afra kicked him slightly, and he put a smile on and said:
Well theres no problem with you eavesdropping on our conversations, youll never know what were saying.
Afra didnt like her brothers attitude, so she kicked him in the back leg with her back leg. I said disgustingly:
Bye, Afra and Thaqaf, good to see you, I wouldnt want to be you.
As I was walking back to our group of horses, my thoughts went to the smoke that was coming from the town. It was a small, innocent town. I lived there all my life. The town was like a small stronghold for Constantinople. We fought off all the attacks from the Arab forces. This time we failed, failed till death of everyone in town. I was getting worried about Constantinople, wondering if we could save that great city.
I came to my friends and said: Its time to go, Ill lead. Fiona replied: OK, come on friends. Then I announced to Afra and Thaqaf that it was time to leave. As we were walking in the direction the enemy left, I saw many of my friends. They left the world today, when we came past Fionas master, she shut her eyes. I was so upset with raging anger in me, but I took control of myself. Trailing trough the men and horses that past, hurt me. Finally we got through the mess, and I just continued leading with Dixon by my side, following the footprints of the enemy.
