Trained ducks / Ducks on TRAIN AND BUS!! MUST SEE!!!

Thanks and whats more awesome is that i met a girl yesterday who is also a duck owner. I was walking Donald and Daffy in the park and i looked up and saw a indian runner and her owner. Its awesome haha. Looks like plenty of duck play dates to come :D although at the moment donalnd and daffy arnt interested much and are kinda scared of her. The indian runner is only 6 weeks old and ADORABLE!!
Sounds like fun, and of course you'll have to post pics of the trio.

Haha...is taking your duck out in public quite a common thing in the US...? I see loads of threads here about it all the time.

I took my White Campbell to the park once and let her play in the small lake/large pond with the native ducks and she loved it...but being in England I got some VERY strange looks and comments and when I was about to leave numerous people during my walk home accused me of capturing and kidnapping a wild duck! ( you do get white campbell looking duckings along the canal )

Plus...I was worried senseless of dogs...if I saw a dog within 50-100m of us I would pick her up, which sort of spoilt the "relaxing" time in the park as I was constantly on edge. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs and have no issue with them...but dog vs duck is another thing all together. In the UK so many dog owners are just morons with untrained dogs running amock that would think nothing of gobbling down a tasty catch.

How do you deal with dogs in the US? Do you have parks that are dog free zones?

cheers,

Woka

I don't think it's a common thing, although some do. And over here dogs are a ducks worse enemy also. I don't think there are dog free zones in parks but I live out in a rural part of the country so not too many parks around here . There is a park in the town close by but once we went to a picnic there and there were dogs wandering around. That is my biggest fear since my flock do free range [but only when I am home} is dogs running loose, mainly hunting dogs this time of year.

I like in the UK also and get the 'Did you just take that from the pond?' question all the time. Its funny because donald and daffy are nothing like the other birds and slightly look like mallards but there huge and suck softies who wont leave my side for even a second and all the want to do is be walked and carried. Ive picked up the name the duck man so the looks have worn off but i still get them all the time. Even more so on the underground and buses where people look in horror sometimes. Its funny. Also concerning dogs donald and daffy are very good at it. They actually charge at dogs who come too close and they usually send them running but if not then mummy duck has to get in the way (me) and growl or roar at the dogs. I spent many a childhood year perfecting animal sounds which have come in very handy XD. once i had to punch a dog in the face to leave them alone. I really didnt want to but i had to do it to protect them. In that case the mans dog was confiscated from him and he was banned from having dogs because here in london if you dont follow the dog rules you can get in serious trouble. So im always on alert. The less ravage dogs the better.

Never the dogs fault...always the owner.

I noticed no harnless....isn't Mr Bus or Tube driver annoyed at duck poop on the seats?

woka

Nope, you see donald and daffy dont poop when there being picked up and also if you look carefully theres a towel placed under them. It purchase was with the intention to protect seats on transport. I have about 10 different ones. 5 red 5 blue. Red is for Donald and Blue for Daffy. Sometimes they share and sometimes one sits in a cat box and the other is out and on the way back the switch. The only wear the harness, or duck diaper i made myself for them, at home.

Tomorrow im hopefully going to be meeting up with Donald and Daffys play date Fabby the indian runner. Ill be sure to take plenty of pictures :D
