Training chickens to use run

I just got new 5 month old chickens yesterday and I kept them in the coop all day, I have the run door open so they can go out but they don't leave the coop. What should I do? Can I put them out there manually to show them it's safe?

toss some scratch in the run. If they still won't go out, put a few out and the rest should follow.

You can, but you can also just leave them alone to explore it on their own when they are ready. It takes chickens a little while to adjust to anything new, even a new object in the coop or run. I usually use pine shavings in the coop. I'll never forget the day I put a bunch of hay in there instead!
