Training my dog to leave the cat alone

I'm sorry. I know I'm not much help, but every time I see the title of this thread I think of one thing. Let me loan you Killer Kitty for a few days.
Dogs of all sizes fear her.

I have been practicing with her for about 3 days now I finally got a little more "control" over her yesterday to where I could put the kitten on her side for a little bit. I am hoping with everyday she will get better but I dont know. and gritsar I would love to have killer kitty for a few days she would be a very good teaching tool I am sure.

It may help to place a clothes hamper or something else that has holes on top of the cat (so that she is safe, but the dog can see and smell her) and let the dog check her out. This may take the intrigue out of the cat and the dog may not be as interested in her.

Ohio farm girl makes a good point though. My dogs know what is mine and for the most part they resist the tempation of eating anything that belongs to the people. They always wait for me to walk through doors first and then they may come once I tell them to. It has taken a while, and they are both young still (1 and 2 years old) but practice makes perfect. But either way some dogs have such high prey drive, there may not be much you can do.

However, you may not only be cleaning up a bloody mess, the dog will have caught it's prey and reenforced the chase/kill drive! Not to mention the cruel trauma to any survivors!
Certainly, gaitedhorse was "joking".

that's how I trained my dog only three mommy cats worked even better just put a muzzle on your dog

The problem is the chase/kill drive in dogs. As soon as the cat runs is usually when its over. My old mean cat kept off a rottweiler. She rules this house, no doubt. See, though, she doesn't run, she knows not to. I agree with the kennel that there is no way the dog can somehow grab her threw and also the training. Sounds like she needs it, most dogs do though. Let her smell the kitty through the kennel, tell her no when she trys anything other than curiousity and tell her good girl when she is ignoring the cat. Definately keep the dog at your side with leash attached if you want your kitty safe. Leash in hand, held tight if its pit. It might work but it may not if its so strong on killing cats. Personally I would not have a dog and cat mixed if there was that problem. My boyfriend cant bring his doberman over because he will kill my old mean cat. My cats name is banchy is that tells you anything. Good luck though.
