transporting hen

Not sure where to put this .....When spring nears I'm gonna look at creigs list for 8 month old hens ( or so) how the best way to transport them?

If you don't have an animal crate you can just use a big box. Once it's closed and dark they're pretty calm. Give them something for their footing though. Either shavings or better yet some old rags. Cardboard is slick. You don't want cripples when you get home.
