Hello all....I have two week old chicks, 2 of them, and I was wondering about taking them to our cabin this weekend that is a 45 min ride in the car. It does have electricity so i would be keeping them at the right temp. And in the same brooder. It is friday aftrrnoon until Sunday am. So I certainly don't want to leave them home alone! Ideas? Suggestions?

I'm just hatching chicks for the first time too.. I will have to be transporting them home on the weekends as I am keeping them in my classroom at school.. They will be going in a box on the floor of the passenger seat with the heat on pointed at the floor.. temps are still not super warm here yet ...so I might warm up my vehicle... but for 45 min trip I'm sure if you did that they would be fine. Run inside let the brooder warm up for a few minutes and transfer them. You can buy day old chicks from many farm supply stores and I doubt they worry as much as we do about them traveling for a bit out of a brooder box... :) happy travels

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X2, For such short trips, they should be fine in a box in a warm car. Even in a brooder they spend quite a bit of time away from the heat lamp by that age.

Thank you all! So do you think it will be better to put them in a small box for the travel vs. Keeping them in the brooder? Wich will be less stressful?

I prefer to put them in a smaller box/crate (cover to keep in the dark/ keeps them quieter) and it is not as bumpy etc for them in a bouncy car.

my daughter lives near you! I don't think you have to worry about avian flu there.
